The 5-Point Guide To Finding The Perfect Jeans For Your Body

Jeans is a man’s best companion. He wears this piece of garment through just about everything. From those nervous dates, casual Fridays to chilling out with his buddies, it’s something that he could always bank on. Needless to say, his jeans should fit him as if it was just made for him. This is where we come in the picture. We tell you how to get that perfect fit that will give the impression that the jeans was tailor-made for you.

1) Shop A Size Smaller

While women mostly go for denims that are a size smaller in size, men often end up wearing jeans too loose. A tight waistband is uncomfortable but a pair of jeans that’s too loose will destroy your entire look making you look very unappealing. So, just grab a pair of jeans smaller than you would normally do. If you’re able to put more than two fingers in the waistband, the jeans are still bigger.

2) When In Doubt, Go Dark

If you have to invest in only one pair of jeans-invest in a dark one. It makes for a solid statement and also makes the day-to-nigh transition rather easy. Just get into a new tee, thrown in a tie, and you’re good to go.

3) Don’t Worry About Your Body Type

Accentuating or de-emphasizing body curves is a woman’s lookout. A man looks good in just about any kind of denim fit. Instead of thinking about the type, think about the occasion. A relaxed, classic cut is good for weekends and for activities of leisure. Whereas a more tailored fit is apt for dressy and formal occasions. However, avoid the skinnies at all cost. Skin-fit denims are an individual’s prerogative and don’t look good on most Indian guys.

4) Check Your Pockets

This implies especially if your butt is your problem area. Pay attention to your pockets because too much detailing can draw attention to the problem area. Look for a clean pattern with probably thread detailing on the pocket.

5) The Cut

Straight cut is the optimum cut these days. Of course if your jeans are too long, they need to be tailored. It should just fit you- not too tight, not too loose. If you can grab an extra inch or two of fabric around your thigh when you stand up, you know the jeans fits you well. Just make sure-it has no extreme tapering or boot cut.

A brilliant strategy, especially if you’re looking to make your beard soft and moustache shine. Hot-towel treatment is an old-school method which traditional barbers used to do but you can nevertheless recreate it at home using a hot washcloth. Dip it in eucalyptus oil to make the shaving easier.

3) Pre-shave oil

4) 5-blade razor or Lithium trimmer

Ditch the old black tux for once and stir things up with a bright blue tuxedo and a black velvet bowtie. Wear it over a classic white tuxedo shirt and match a white pocket square for a dapper look. Accessorize with a silver toned watch and a pair of brown oxford shoes.

3. Black Enigma

If you wish to go down the ethnic route, nothing does it better than a rich black Sherwani in an opulent fabric like velvet, with a pair of black pants. You can choose to go more elaborate with mild detailing around the hem. Match it with black velvet lace up shoes.

4. Urbane Chic

Put together a winning look with a mustard toned shirt and beige bandhgala set, and a dark-coloured pair of trousers. Wear it with ornate cream Mojris. Leave the jacket open and roll up the sleeves for an effortless flair.

5. Absolute Decadence

If you have what it takes to be a trend mogul, rock a houndstooth jacket with black pants and brown brogues. Not only will it be a breath of fresh air among those heavy wedding outfits, but will also help you charm your way through the evening. Mix things up with a light Indigo blue shirt.

6. Print Is In

A statement floral brocade blazer with black lapels is a must have in every fashion conscious male’s wardrobe. Keep it simple with black shirt and pants, and let the blazer do the talking. Go sockless with a pair of black patent slip-ons to achieve a dandy appearance.

7. Plush Pink

That’s right. Pink is no more a colour that is donned only by the ladies. It looks as good on men, albeit with the right amount of styling. Opt for a swanky pink velvet blazer to upgrade your style quotient. Keep the rest of the look minimalistic to avoid a jarring effect.

8. Regal Charm

If you believe in sticking to old classics when it comes to festive styling, a blue and beige Jodhpuri set is the answer to all your closet queries. Pick out a navy blue jacket with gold buttons that provide just the right amount of sparkle to your outfit and add a vibrant pinkpocket square to offset the use of neutrals. A pair of beige pants and brown brogues, and off you go.

9. Crisp Whites

A dusty rose coloured sleeveless jacket over a white shirt and pants is the ideal outfit for the modern and polished urban Indian male. Complete the look with tan coloured oxford shoes and get ready to lure the female crowd.

NEON COLORS GO WILD

The world of fashion is having an affair with all things fluorescent and neon as these bright, sometimes blind-you-in-the-eye colors have made a glorious comeback!

They were a rage last year, and continue to set runways on fire this year, too. In fact, Spring-Summer 2013 is all about wearing bold, blinding neon’s.

No longer limited to the pop stars, celebrities and their ilk – these shades have found their way into the regular man’s wardrobe… and how!

We think it’s about time you allow your wardrobe some color. Gone are the days when these colors were considered ridiculous or OTT – now, they’re here to stay. The only question is – are you man enough to carry these babies off?

From The Past To The Present

Let’s rewind to the ‘80s and ‘90s—fashion designer Robert Piccone was the first designer to be bold enough to design an all-neon beach line. The ‘Body Glove’ bikini celebrated all things bright, and it was a personification of the fashion industry’s love for all things neon.

The ‘90s brought with it graver connections such as rave gigs and rivet head fashions. It pretty much died in the 2000s, and if anyone was ever caught wearing these colors, the fashion faux pas was hard to live down. However, 2012 brought with it a world of change and acceptance and with it neon colors came back from the dead. This time, the colors came with its share of class, elegance and chic style that bordered on pushing the boundaries and boldness. Just the shot the men’s fashion industry needed.

This Time, This Year

While some may still balk at the idea of sporting bright clothes, a few international designers pushed boundaries and presented men’s collections that we made up of just neon and fluorescent colors. Salvatore Ferragamo made his statement loud and clear, especially because his Spring-Summer 2013 line for women consisted of muted, dark colors. In contrast, the men’s line he presented was all neon, all bright.

He went wild with a not-so-subtle use of colors, and his collection included head-to-toe designs in bold, bright colors, and strike-you-in-the-face color blocking that gave his clothes a dramatic effect. One would consider this a bit much, but hey, if you can carry this off, you can carry off pretty much anything.

alt

Salvatore Ferragamo let his imagination run wild with this one. We like the color block effect on the jacket, and considering that he has stayed true to just bright colors while putting this together, we’ll give you full marks if you can carry this off!

alt

The jacket is bright, bright, bright, but the blue detailing along the jacket gives it a contrast. Additionally, the blue pants manage to tone down the jacket… only just, which is just the way it’s supposed to be.

alt

The all yellow trench coat is quite the eye-catcher, and just another number that celebrates the family of the bright.

Like Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, too, featured lots of citrus colors, reds, yellows, and more. The bright jackets are teamed with white shirts, toning the jackets down a little.

Tips On Wearing Neon Colors

Considering the absolute rage neon colors are, it’s imperative that you own not just one but several pieces of bright. However, remember that owning neon colored clothing and carrying them off with ease are two different things.

To say that neon is bright and even more bright is an understatement; and rage or not, this means that these are colors you either nail it or fail it. Seeing that life isn’t a runway (though we’d like it to be one), and not everyone is as thin as the models sporting the clothes, here are a few winning tips on wearing neon colors like a superstar.

alt

Know Your Neon

There’s a plethora of neon colored clothes, and as much as you’d like to go color-crazy and pick all of them, there are a few colors that work for you and a few colors that don’t. Figure out what colors work for you and buy just those. For example, there’ll be colors that bring out and highlight your features – try them, figure it out and then buy them. This way you’ll be wearing a color that’s enhancing your personality, which is what fashion is about anyway.

alt

Match Right

As much as we’d love to see lots of neon over neon, fact is there are very few people who can pull this one off. Very few. But, if you have to do it, do it right. Make sure that you match colours that bring out one another. Do not, and we mean DO NOT, try and wear opposite colours together.

alt

Mix It Up

Take a neon jacket and team it with solid coloured trousers. In fact, very often black brings out the neon even better than a neon over neon.

Accessorise

If you have neon clothes, you ought to have neon accessories. Besides watches, wristbands, and scarves, you can choose to carry a neon bag. The Louis Vuitton 2013 Spring Summer collection has a whole lot of neon carrier bags, etc.

alt

Know Where

Neon colours draw attention; in case you have certain parts of your body you want to camouflage, please make sure that whatever you wear does that! If you’re on the heavier side, it’s best that you team your neon clothing with a black garment. So in case you’re wearing a neon jacket, team it with black trousers. The idea is that you can and should wear it, but if your body structure doesn’t permit you to go all out crazy, then tone it down.

Whether you like it or hate it, neon and fluorescent colours are here to stay. Go ahead, add a splash of colour and life; living dangerously and fashionable is an absolute essential.

7 Things No Man Can Wear After 30

There is no denying in the fact that as you grow up, your wardrobe evolves too. There are so many elements that you may have rocked at your college party, but, would make you look like a creep if you try to pull them off now. So, in an attempt to make you not look like you’re holding desperately onto your youth, we tell you 7 things that a man shouldn’t even go near after he turns 30.

1) Neon Sneakers

We don’t live in a black-and-white world, so it’s completely fine if adults wear colourful sneakers. However, there’s something sinister about a 30-year-old guy opting for neon greensneakers with electric yellow laces. High school is over guys, get real shoes!

2) Sagged Jeans

Things-No-Man-Can-Wear-Sagged-Jeans

A blot on the fashion world, this abomination has been here for quite a while now – jeans which fall on a man’s rear end. Imagine that on a 30-year-old – it simply scars our imagination. Please invest in a pair of jeans that fit properly. You’ll actually find yourself looking younger.

3) Fake fragrances

Take a step ahead and pay for a real fragrance, unless you want to smell homeless.  Besides, someone with even a little bit of cologne knowledge can catch you red-handed and your game will be over at that very instant.  Save yourself the embarrassment and buy a real bottle!

4) Wristbands

Unless you are a member of an uber-cool rock band, or you’re Salman Khan, wearing a wristband, especially leather is indisputably foolish. Honestly, it’s not even stylish and serves no purpose. It’s not a watch, neither a bracelet, nor a commitment band, it’s just a sign of your reluctance to grow up.

5) T-Shirts with funny slogans

Boys who are not yet 25 might be able to get away with T-shirts that read ‘Moustache Ride *Free*’, but wearing that after you turn 30 makes you look like a pervert. You’ll never be taken seriously. Avoid them the same way you’ll avoid the Ed Hardy T-shirts. Here’s why!

6) Ed Hardy T-shirts

Nothing says ‘desperate creepy attention seeker’ quite like a middle-age man wearing an Ed Hardy T-Shirt. Remember why your best friend was dumped by that hottie before – yes, right, because he was wearing an awful, tacky shiny and obnoxiously loud Ed Hardy T-Shirt. You wouldn’t want to be that guy!

7) Designer sweatpants

Sweatpants, while all purpose, are really not going to get you too far in life. In fact, sweat pants should be used for just those things that make you sweat. There are many middle-age men running around in designer sweatpants thinking they look good. Well, guess what – they don’t!

Most Frequently Asked Men’s Grooming Questions-Answered

Grooming, like fashion, doesn’t come easy to most guys, and rightly so! After all it’s not easy to discover a fixed routine that works well for you and stick to it. But looking good has its own advantages, and fortunately for you, we’re here to make that easier. So, if you had wanted to know about razor burns, ingrown hair, face serum, fragrance and other basic men’s grooming questions, here’s your chance. We’re here to answer them!

1) What’s The Best Way To Prevent Razor Burns

Most Frequently Asked Men's Grooming Questions-Answered

© Shutterstock

These are the patches of red, irritated skin that appear within minutes of shaving. Mostly caused by using a blunt blade or dry shaving, it can be treated easily. You just need to soften your skin before taking the razor to your face. Prep up by applying shaving oil, using a gel-based cream for actual shaving and finishing up with a soothing moisturiser. Additionally, always shave in the direction of hair growth with short strokes using just enough pressure.

2) How Does One Avoid Ingrown Hairs?

Most Frequently Asked Men's Grooming Questions-Answered

They form when a hair curls back, penetrates the skin and grows beneath the surface of the skin. Most guys have had an ingrown hair at least once in their life, but people with curly hair are more susceptible. The easiest way to prevent them is with a scrub that ensures exfoliation and removal of dead cells from the follicles. This also allows hair to grow freely and help free hairs that have just begun to in grow.

3) Is There Anything I Can Do To Prevent My Hair From Thinning?

Most Frequently Asked Men's Grooming Questions-Answered

© Shutterstock

Thinning hair can be a man’s worst nightmare, more so because close to 45 per cent of men lose hair by the time they reach 35. However, it’s not as depressing as it may seem. There are ways to camouflage thinning hair and give an appearance of fuller hair. For starters, make sure to use a mild thickening shampoo every day if need be, and rinse it off with warm and not hot water. Hot water causes scalp and hair to dry out. Blow-drying is also a good way to add more volume.

4) How Do I Apply Fragrance?

Most Frequently Asked Men's Grooming Questions-Answered

© Thinkstock

Most people apply cologne on their wrists and behind the ears, which are the pulse points. But the scents don’t last long on these pulse points as the burn rate of the fragrance becomes much faster. The best part to apply cologne is on your chest/biceps instead. That way the fragrance will be trapped between your skin and the clothes. You can also apply a little cologne in the dip of the collarbone for maximum impact.

5) What Is Face Serum? How Can Men Use Them?

Most Frequently Asked Men's Grooming Questions-Answered

© Shutterstock

Serums are the new-age elixir for men, which are more effective than creams at any given point of time. More intense, faster working and effective, face serums are a magic that can be a remedy to any skin problem. Serums penetrate deeper into the skin, are non-greasy and have an intensive formula with a high concentration of active ingredients, which is why these potions are a must in your skin care arsenal. We strictly recommend you to try these coming-of-age products, only if you can afford them. Here’s how to apply them.

6) What’s The Best Way To Shave My Balls?

Most Frequently Asked Men's Grooming Questions-Answered

© Shutterstock

Manscaping is not just an option, but a necessity especially for hygiene purposes. The easiest way to shave the pair is by trimming the hair back first with a gadget like a body groomer or a trimmer from a noted brand, say Phillips. You can also apply the shaving cream and shave them as you’d your face. Stretch your skin slightly with your free hand to have better accessibility. Finish it by applying a fragrance-free aftershave healer.

11 WAYS TO DRESS AS A SKINNY MAN

You may believe that skinny men have it easy in the wardrobe department, with clothes that fit and flatter, but the reality, however, is far from what it seems. The issue of fit is not the only problem skinny men face. But the good news is that all the problems can be resolved with these 11 easy ways.  So, all you slender guys, we’ve got you covered!

1) Before you buy trousers, check out how much hem there is to play with, and then ask your tailor to give you a best fit in the leg and also take care of the fit from the waist. The rule for trousers, or denims for skinny men is that the slimmer, the better.

2) Layering smartly is the key to look sharp. But do ensure each layer is slim-fitting, so that you don’t end up looking like a man who has worn all the clothes from his wardrobe.

3) Make sure you invest in a decent outwear, and yes, that involves shelling out money. Take cue from Robert Pattinson who demonstrates how to mitigate the factor that you’re skinny through quality clothing.

4) We cannot help but reiterate on getting a personal tailor who’ll tailor the hell out of your clothes. From adding shoulder pads to give an illusion of width to giving you a perfectly-fitted slim trouser, he’ll be the divine intervention that you need in your life.

5) Although wearing a slim-fit shirt would seem counterintuitive, embrace it still. It will make your torso look heavy, especially if it’s made of a thick fabric such as denim or mix cotton. What you can also do is bonus layering by throwing in an undershirt over a shirt.

6) Winter should be your favorite season and rightly so! Go all out with coats, trench coats, tweeds, mufflers, sweaters and jackets. Chunky knits can never look better!

7) Light-colored jeans such as white or contrasting bold colors, and horizontal stripes are your saving grace. They’ll instantly add 5 kilos to your look.

8) Avoid pointed shoes at all costs, not because they look extremely nasty (yes, also because of that) but they’re going to emphasize the slimness of your legs.

9) Give the sleeves of your tee a couple of rolls for an on-trend look. This not only adds additional bulk and contours to break up the length of your arms, but also helps to make your muscles look bigger – which will be a bonus!

10) When it comes to belts, ditch the over sized ones because an over sized belt will over shadow your personality. Wear the one that is small and complements your body type.

11) While we are at belts, you must also know not to wear any large accessory—including watches, sunglasses and over-sized bags. It will just draw attention to your slim body parts.

Party Files: Velvet is the New Black

It’s that time of the year when party invites fly in and you find yourself wondering what the perfect party look is. It’s all about what you wear and how you wear it. Velvet is the new black, the hottest rage this season, and if you’re not wearing velvet, you’re annihilating your look. MensXP steps in and tells you exactly how you can incorporate velvet in your party wardrobe. Hit all the right style stakes before you hit that dance floor.

Shaking the Dust Off Velvet

For time immortal, velvet has been scorned when it came to men’s clothing. But, Autumn Winter 2012 changed all that and as 2013 comes to a close, velvet has never been as hot as it is now. The key to wearing velvet is not so much about the fabric but how you wear it, what you pair it with and the colours that set it off.

A fleeting trend no more, velvet has arrived; it’s not just a trend, it’s now a wardrobe staple. The only thing you have to ask yourself is how much of velvet you should wear. This depends completely on your personality and your ability to carry off this fabric. MensXP gives you a few ideas on incorporating velvet in your party wardrobe.

Velvet is the New Black

© Shutterstock

1) Since velvet is an extravagant, rich, eye-catching fabric, stick to dark colours – jet black and navy blue are sure-shot winners. In case you want colour, go for burgundy or deep wine.

2) When opting for a velvet blazer, choose a one-button or two-button jacket with a complementing lapel.

3) A velvet blazer is an absolute rage this season. Considering that velvet is as rich as it is, you’ll do well to tone down the rest of your outfit. Team the blazer with a crisp shirt that complements it. Don’t go for contrasting colours because the velvet blazer is the king and if you go for a contrasting colour, you will underplay the blazer and risk looking like a style mistake.

4) Mix-and-match is a great way to make a statement. If you’re wearing a velvet blazer, team it with a roll neck jumper (if the temperatures are low, if not, you can team it with a shirt) and a pair of denims. A velvet blazer is dressy enough to carry your denims.

5) If you’re feeling adventurous and you think you can carry off a velvet suit, you can wear a plaid print velvet suit, which is quite a rage this season.

6) If you’re aiming for a sleek look, pair a dark blazer with dark denims. In case you want contrast, limit it to a dark blazer with light denims.

7) And, if you want to be the star of the party, team a burgundy blazer with a roll neck jumper and off-white trousers. These colours complement and contrast one another simultaneously, and of course, the rich colours combinations make for a splendid look.
